Chiara De Rege, an interior designer made an excellent job when creating a cozy atmosphere at the Brooklyn location of The Wing. You’re probably wondering what is “The Wing”. This unique place is a women-only co-working space that is fastly expanding across New York.

This marvelous concept of The Wing has been a true success among all females that are interested in working in a clear, inspiring environment next to other empowering women.
A concept created by Lauren Kassan and Audrey Gelman, that firstly based the female co-working club and supportive community with the women’s club movement that appeared in New York during the 19th and 20th century.
With the extreme popularity that the club gained after launching the first location in Manhattan’s Flatiron neighborhood in 2016, the two owners and thinkers of the project had to open the second in Soho after only six months of the first opening. Every day the membership grows outside of Manhattan, and so opened last week the Brooklyn space in the Dumbo neighborhood.
“Expanding to Brooklyn was a no-brainer for The Wing,” said Gelman. “A third of The Wing’s current members call Brooklyn home, and it is consistently one of the most requested locations.”
Chiara designed the first two locations and was enlisted once again to apply the brand’s homely aesthetic to an old paper factory in Dumbo, that was previously occupied by restaurant chain Bubby’s. While the first spaces of The Wing occupy only one-storey loft, the Brooklyn outpost uses two floors, a storefront and an atrium, offering a new challenge to De Rege and her designs.
The walls and concrete floors are painted in the company’s “Wing Pink” color, and pale oak flooring is present to add a little bit of warmth and coziness. In there every woman is able to find a mix of private and open-plan workspaces that are decorated like distinct living rooms. The entire place features eclectic chairs and sofas in contrasting pastel and bolder tones.
“The goal was to help The Wing open its doors to the Brooklyn community by designing a timeless, engaging, cool, fun yet professional space,” said De Rege.
The main open-plan space features pendant lights. This area is designed for meetings and to host the club’s programme of talks and events. The seating designs range from a plush, sunken green couch to pink, tubular chairs.
“What is consistent throughout is the work/lounge like furniture arrangement,” said the designer. “It is conducive to event programming and networking, as well as if someone were to bring their computer to work from there every day.” She added that “All the elements work well off of one another, and I hope to establish a fun but chic and inviting tone,” she added.
To access the first floor you just need to go upstairs a staircase with golden handrail. There, you’ll find sofas around glass tables, a long wooden desk decorated with headphones and flowers. Arched windows provide the incredible view of the surrounding spaces. An in-house cafe called The Perch, pink photobooths and dressing rooms with individual alcoves are among the other facilities available to members. De Rege also set up a private meeting space like a dining room, featuring a table and chairs, pink wallpaper decorated with black line drawings, and a thickly woven rug.
The Wing also features other two spaces: a ballet studio with seating pads for mediation and a radio room for recording podcasts, a place that De Rege describes as being “retro without being too retro”.
