Miriam Fanning is a well-known name in field of design in Australia. She’s working on the industry for more than 20 years and she’s a living example. Passionate, curious, loyal, resourceful and creative are 5 words that the interior designer uses to describe herself.
She started her career Buchan Group in Melbourne, a diversified practice with focus on retailing; starting in a junior position, but quickly assuming the charge of associate director. During her walk in the company, she had developed several types of projects.
In 2000, she created “Mim Design”. This project started just with Miriam and today it has more than 19 talented staff. To Miriam, Mim Design is the realization of a dream.

DRF Residence
The revival of an Elsternwick residence allowed Mim Design to create a stunning internal transformation of a dark Edwardian home with cramped, unusable spaces, into a modern sanctuary. The team implemented a plan covering the interior architectural framework, styling and soft furnishings, which resulted in an entirely new look. The layering of materials, the soft colours with accents of black, added a timeless brilliance to the interior, respecting the Edwardian architecture.
JBC Residence
The complete rebuild of a Brighton Edwardian 1930’s home was an incredible collaboration between Mim Design and architecture firm, Nixon Tulloch Fortey. Miriam’s company worked through the interior design and planning process. Carefully curated interiors melding the architecture with interior detailing was paramount. The interior reflects their clients requirement for a light, bright and easy living home. Contrasts through texture, form and material were essential in melding original details with new additions.
