Occupied by the same family for over 20 years, the BSR House, located in the town of Shoham, has hardly never been touched. The couple and their two grown-up kids, contacted the architecture and design studio This Is It to remodeled the home in a modern and contemporary way, creating spaces with areas for relaxing and entertaining.
Before the entirely new look, the house had a series of cluttered rooms that featured yellow stone floors and old, peeling carpentry.
“The clients kept saying how they are minimalists when it comes to their personal space, and how they love when all is neat and in order,” This Is It co-founders Noa Kedar and Tal Nisim told Dezeen. “But so much stuff was lying around it was just so evident that they were totally lacking order and storage space.”
The team of designers started by removing the home’s floor, stripping drywall partitions to form an open-plan kitchen and living area. They turned the kitchen into a room with “warmth, comfort and discretion” by finishing it with soft grey stone flooring and brass skirting boards.
It was created a large storage unit that is being used to tuck away the client’s objects and possessions, instead of displaying their most prized ornaments. Shelves are covered in oak and white timber panels, one of which can be slid back and forth to show or hide the television during social gatherings.
“We realized a big storage unit could not only help conceal an extra bathroom they’d asked for, or hide the TV, but it could be a vast space for placing their things in a tidy manner while still displaying some selected items in an edited way,” Kedar and Nisim explained.
The new bathroom follows the material and color palette of the rest of the ground floor and has been decorated with lots of metallic and clay plant pots from Danish homeware brand Ferm Living. The studio also created a reading corner, which clients can easily transform into an extra dining area.
